Jane Austen 200 with a GIVEAWAY

I have some more goodies, so I thought I might as well give it away.

Today, I’ll write about the Jane Austen commemoration in Winchester and a visit to Chawton.

As you are well aware, Tuesday, 18th of July was the 200 anniversary of Jane Austen’s death and she is burried in Winchester Cathedral, where they held a commemoration. The following thoughts are my own based on my experience, which you might disagree. Either you agree or disagree, feel free to tell your opinion, in both cases you are able to enter the giveaway if you wish! 😉

I have to admit, I wouldn’t have missed the service for the world, but it was more than surreal! Hundreds of people sat in the Cathedral waiting to celebrate a woman who died exactly 200 years ago. My first thought was, “I’m sure Jane Austen is turning in her grave”, then I thought probably she would get out of the coffin and beat us up with her own shinbone for being there for her, on an occassion like this. Now, I’m not sure… It is also possible that she would laugh so hard, that she would hyperventilate. I could imagine her family would be pleased, though.

Moving on to Chawton, I’ve met one of the best JAFF author for the first time, Caitlin Williams, author of The Coming of Age of Elizabeth Bennet, Ardently and When We Are Married, and contributor to The Darcy Monologues.
Well, let’s put it that way, that because I was so starstruck, I barely dared to talk to her. One would think, that after meeting Jennifer and Colin, I would be OK, but it’s not the case. 😀 I really hope I will meet her again and I will be more composed. 😛

Good news: they finished the refurbishment of the room in Chawton, in which they found the original wallpaper which covered the wall around 1805.
